Exploration of the lonely brick in an interior context
Inspired by the story of when Louis Kahn asked a brick what it wants to be, this project is about exploring what a lonely brick wants to be in an interior context.
In the process of trying to listen to the material I’ve been on a study trip to a brick-beach, carried a brick for several days and trying to read the character of the lonely brick.
The brick rests steady on it’s foundation and contains a sense of heaviness. The act of masonry is in a way very ritual. All of the bricks ended up with a link to a ritual or an act of rest. Collecting things, having a game with a friend, lightning a cigarette, candle or incense.
